Literature and Mental Health

HERO BANNER

I love taking courses from this site. Its not for credits, and costs nothing, unless you want to acquire a Certificate of Participation’ document and web stamp.

The courses vary on subject, and I have completed 15 of them, and there are nearly 100, if not more, from physical and health, to nursing, to Criminology and forensics. I take these courses to broaden my knowledge, and also for research purposes.

The current course I am working on is entitled, ‘https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/literature/2/todo/5796‘.

It is so fascinating, I felt it deserved a blog post. The course exams how literature, poetry (and I would hazard a guess to add reading certain blogs) can have an impation on ones mental being. Certain literature and poetry bring out the soothing side of things.

Sometimes, it can also be harmful. If you are in a dark place mentally, it wouldnt be wise to read a bunch of dark poetry or reading material.

There are some great guest readers, such as Sir Ian McKellan, Sir Anthony Hopkins, and discussions with many poets and celebrities such as Stephen Fry and Ben Okri.

I often choose the blogs I follow and read their content for things that keep me from sliding down. Yes, I have a variety of disorders, the biggest being anxiety, Major Depression with phsychotic episodes, schizophrenia and severe bipolar disorder. I have shared in the past that I do self harm.

I have found I rely on my more upbeat bloggers to keep my head above water in time when I am doing my own writing, because, lets face it, I write some dark morbid stuff. My next book is overflowing with tragedy. I try to keep some of my stuff from getting too far off by adding humor. In my last short story, Addison was pretty much the comic relief that I needed.

But as the writing time crunch nears, I will be searching out those bloggers who post positive, happy things.

Future Learn is a great place to expand your horizons, whether for your own curiosity on a subject, or for genuine research on techniques.

Enjoy, my lovelies!

I GOT LOOT!!!

So my lovely friend Patricia sent me a loot box! Oh, so many wonderful little things inside!
Jeffrey decided he wanted in on the pic, so dont mind him. As you can see, there is some really wonderful stuff here. A Nintendo Controller Over Mitt, A Zombie Book, A Game of Thrones Action Figure, A Lootbin Pin, A Space Invaders Figure, A Tea Cup w/Spoon, an Arpon with puppies on it, some hair rollers and Walking Dead ‘Ear’ Soap on a Rope.

As you can imagine, with what a HUGE fan of Daryl Dixon on TWD I am, the EARS!! ZOMG!! LOVE!

Now, the oven mitt and Game of Thrones Figure? I barely got the chance to say ‘mine’ when quickly that thought was proven wrong as my daughter-spawn cackled and ran off with them. She is a Game of Thrones nerd. Well, she’s just  a nerd. Period.

Now, Patricia, I gotta ask…the hair rollers? REALLY?!?! WOMAN! You know I had to get all my hair cut off. I AINT GOT NO HAAAAR! lmao. Honestly, I do have a bit on top. What will I do with these rollers? Probably put them in my hair and go to WalMart. Just to see peoples reactions.

So thank you so much, Patricia!!! Everything is so wonderful.

Currently I am enjoying a week of peace. Okay, thats stretching it. I am between courses this week. I am starting a new one and from the looks of it, I am really going to need my brain for it. Just looking at the assignments breaks my brain. ~wails~ WHAT DID YOU PEOPLE LET ME DO THIS?!?! (remember, I warned you all I would regret this ‘continued education thing?) Honestly, its not that bad…so far. >_>

The kittehs are doing well. BaxterMarie isnt really growing any. She’s like a miniature cat. Its adorable, especially next to Jeffrey who is getting rather fat. They have a wonderful bond, too. The groom one another, they rough house, they knock my stuff over. -_-

The child-spawn is well, too, other than stealing my stuff.

The book, while on hold, is still making progress. Sometimes something will come to me out of the blue and it makes for a good chapter or add-on, so I write in all down in a word document. Its nice not having the pressure.

So, that is how things are going in the Zoe world.

Severe Weather, Kittehs and Classes

skull_kitty_classic_round_sticker-rcf19db4c8de4420e92afb11f506e76ed_v9i1a_1024

So, last night we had severe storms in the area. Here in Enterprise, we had a lot of strong winds, trees fallings and debris everywhere.
In the nearby city of Dothan, they had much more going on. Part of the ceiling at a WalMart fell in, lots of people without power, trees falling on peoples homes. They were a lot harder hit than we were, and there is only 20 miles between us.

I made sure my friends down that way were okay. Thankfully everyone was.

The cats are doing great. I am a little worried about BaxterMarie. She isnt growing. She seems like she’s going to be a ‘forever kitten’. Perhaps she is just a little tiny breed. Jeffrey Jones on the other hand is getting fatter by the day. YAY. And he is a proper little Sir. As I have told my friends, he just needs a monocle and top hat. He is a bit on the skittish side. BaxterMarie is as fearless as ever. Oh, and she still likes to pee in my bathroom sink for some reason.

So, remember back when I decided to start taking some school courses? Remember how I said I would probably regret it? Cry? Throw tantrums? Well, I am. WTF was I thinking?!

However, as much as it all makes me want to cry, I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have a huge class load, but I can take it at my own pace pretty much, since I dont work or anything. And these classes, so spectacular. They are definitely holding my interest.

I should check in more often, I know, I know. I will try to make it a point.

I have reconnected with some family members that I havent talked to in years as well. You see, my mom was always sort of the ‘black sheep’. She married a military man and we traveled and lived all over the place, while her sisters stayed right in the area they were born. So, we all had some distance there. And my aunts werent very nice when my mom was younger either. I remember that growing up. But things are different now. I am calling one aunt on  a semi-regular basis, and doing hand written letters with the other. It is actually quite nice.

Well, the bad weather has died down. We’ve had our typical weird winter weather here in the South. Temps in the 70s, tornados, then the temps dropping into the 40s. You know, once every ten years or so it snows here in April. Totally freaks us out. We arent prepared for snow. We dont know what to do other than shut down the state…lol. No, seriously. The upper portions of the state knows what to do. But not down here in the very southern most part. We all flail about and marvel at the white stuff falling from the sky. We also close our part of the state, because heaven forbid we try to drive in the stuff. You wont catch me trying to drive, no sir.

And, lastly, I am still addicted to the Netflix Vortex of Doom. I’ve also fallen in love with Putlocker.

Tonights movie: Macbeth. Michael Fassbender….YUM and DROOL!!

So, until next time my lovies…

What I’ll be doing…2016

ME
I’ve made my decision on what I’ll be doing with most of 2016. Dont worry, I’ll still be blogging my weirdness, short stories and cat stuff…but after taking a few online courses in 2015, I’ve decided that 2016 will be the year I get myself even more educated.
I’ve enrolled in several courses and different fields of study that interest me. I’m looking forward to this endeavor. Oh, I’m sure by the second week I’ll be sitting in front of my computer or laptop crying and snotting, asking myself ‘why, oh why, did you do this?’.  😀
However, these courses I’ve chosen are going to be very beneficial to my writing and opening new doors in my creative style and knowledge on the things I want to put in my book.
Also, as recommended by several people for my depression and anxiety, I’ve gotten myself a butt-load of those stress relieving coloring books. Mostly cats and carousel horses. And I already have an impressive collection of tools to color them with. Water colors, brush markers, colored pencils, markers…I mean, literally bags of materials…the artist bags with the little elastic things to keep each pencil, marker, pen, etc., seperate from another, and then the whole thing either zips up or rolls up.
Some books are designed for specific coloring materials. I think it will help me through some of my stresses. At least, I hope so.
So, my darlings, I’ll be back tomorrow evening to tell you all about my lovely day of probably getting sucked into the Netflix Vortex of Doom. I got hooked watching the Hannibal series again. ~sighs~
