A New Direction

Hello my sweets!

As you can see by looking around, I have made some changes to the site. I have taken down my book and some other pages, because, really, sales are down and the book can be found anywhere.

Why the change? Its time to branch off in a new direction. My tags will change, my content will change.

Whats to come? More talk of gaming, more talk of writing (no change there) and some more on the things that fascinate me the most in our world…like serial killers and news items.

Oh, there will still be plenty of talks of my daily hilarity that is called my life, and plenty of talk of the kitties and their adventures in driving me mad.

The book and movie reviews will be back, as I love doing those.

Of course, the occasional rant will find its way into the pages from time to time, because I am small and can only contain so much rage.

You will also find that I have an added website. I took my ‘Clattering Keyboard’ blogger site off google and gave it its own fancy smancy domain. It is listed under my real name. It WILL, at time, have different content. You can find it at www.clatteringkeyboard.com if interested.

Please keep in mind, I am not done with either site. The listing for the Bloodletting game is not quite complete, as I have a lot of content and explanations for the game yet to go.

Now, as for the difference in the site, as I’ve said, this site may have content different than the other and vice versa.

Its funny, and kind of weird, to be in the world as both Zoe Ambler and Beth McMarlin.

I have a friend I met online under the name Zoe, and we now meet face to face every few months for a lunch date and she insists on calling me Zoe rather than my real name. I am simply her ‘Zo Zo’. And I love it.

A note on the kitties. All three are terrors and I think they are plotting something because suddenly all three are getting along really well. Definitely plotting.

So, thats the update for now.

Be sweet to one another, my darlings. ~mwah~

Movie Review: Wolf Creek 1,2 & Series

wolf creek series
Wolf Creek the Series (one season)

I took a day to myself to re-watch some of my favorite movies from Down Under. Australia puts out some really great horror movies, and movies based on actual events.

This review covers the Wolf Creek movies and the single season series. Each starts with the mention that it is based on actual events. And its is pretty accurate. Australia has a large amount of serial killers that have never been caught.

Young people flock to the Outback to take in the brilliant scenery and hitchhike around the country. Hence, so many go missing. Predators hone in one this, making these young ones easy targets. Included in the opening credits of the movies is the line ‘30,000 people go missing in Australia every year, 90% are found, 10% are never found.’ So, foul play runs rampant.

There are proven ‘backpack serial killers’ that have been caught, but how many copy cats go unchecked? And some of those that have been caught are so brutal to their victims. Australia is a vast land, as harsh as it is beautiful.

So, on with the reviews.

Wolf Creek movies 1 and 2, and the short series are some of my favorites. It is the villain I seem to root for, because, in my little head, he is just the best. Mick Taylor is a relentlessly brutal serial killer. He targets tourists. He views them as pigs that just need to be eliminated from ‘his’ country.

Mick has the absolute best maniacal snicker/chuckle I have ever heard. Actor John Jarret captures this character so well, I could never picture the character of Mick Taylor played by anyone else.

The good news is, Wolf Creek 3 is in post production.

Wolf Creek introduces us to Mick. It shows his relentless pursuit of those he deems as trash and a mar on his country. Foreigners are not welcome in his country. So, as a ‘pest eliminator’, he does his job. He takes great joy in this endeavor.

Wolf Creek 2 is much the same, showing just how gruesome this man can be. He is hilarious, however. Creepy, but hilarious. Some of his one liners had me in stitches, but, you have to remember, I am a fan of villains. Also, that snicker/chuckle. It makes me smile.

The short Season of Wolf Creek that was developed was also so perfect. This time, we got to see what drives Mick to do the things he does. We learn of his past, getting a glimpse into why he does what he does, and just how his mind got so warped.

The movies and the series are quite gruesome for the faint of heart. There really isn’t a fear factor as far a jump scares. It is more about sitting on the edge of your seat as the gore happens, because you can nearly feel the pain of Mick victims as he does what he does. He is quite creative and twisted. No one really gets a ‘clean death’.

So if you are up for a really charismatic villain and a lot of gruesome edge of your seat gore, I highly recommend checking these movies and the series out. You wont be disappointed.

Holiday card time…

mla_1210_pinwreath_a_vert

So the holiday season is upon us once again. One of my favorite things about the season is receiving mail and cards. I also really dig sending them as well, because I find some truly entertaining cards.

As I often do throughout the year, I invite you to email me your address at zoe.ambler5@gmail.com, or send me your contact info via my ‘Contact’ page. My home address is listed there as well, if you want to just jump write in and shoot me a snail mail.

I have quite a few people I correspond with now, and more is always welcome. Sometimes you may get several letters back to back, sometimes I am a little slow. However, I answer all letters, and when I send cards, they are usually pretty unique.

So please help make this old hags holidays a little brighter and become one of my pen pals. You wont regret it. ~.^

Love you guys to bits!

What’s on my bookcase: Stephen Knight

61BV4Eppf7L._UX250_

Stephen Knight is one of those authors I just happened to stumble over…and it was instant love. I read one of his books on my best friends Kindle and fell in love.

I had to have the book. I tootle on over to his page and BAM! He has a whole series!!! I had to have them all. He actually has two different series, but, me being me, stuck to the zombie series.

What makes Stephens Knight’s zombies in the Gathering Dead series so great, is that some are slow, some are fast…and some remember. That’s right! They have memories of people, loved ones, how to do things like drive (badly) and use weapons.

I was floored by this. And of course, you are going to fall in love with a character only to watch them go out blazing. Or whimpering.

The Last Town was just a series of novellas, but I know see they have been condensed into one book. The Gathering Dead and The Rising Horde, as well as Left with the Dead have also been condensed into an omnibus.

If you love zombie tales, that have a very good grounding in a reality type world, these are the books for you. Great characters and plots. Even those you are meant to hate are written to perfection.

I don’t know what his other series is about, just from titles and cover art, they seem more sci-fi. Not quite my bag.

Another thing that is so great about these books, especially with them being zombie books, is they touch you as a human. It’s not all about zombies, nom, nom, nom, shoot, shoot, shoot. No, these books touch deeper into the lives of the people trying to survive. It nearly had me in tears several times, and that is a pretty heard feat to accomplish.

So, as the weather gets a little cooler, and you want to snuggle up with some good reading material, zombies and people, this is a good series. 10/10 on my scale. Great for reading through October.

I hope you check these books out, and if so, enjoy them as much as I have. I am waiting for more, as the end seeeeemed to be left open for a continuation. But Mr Knight is involved in several other projects, so that remains to be seen.

Happy reading!

Be sweet, my darlings!

Some of my favorite blogs…

5pixel_2015-07-05_17-42-35

So, I spend a great deal of time reading and discovering new blogs. I am going to list for you several that I keep coming back to due to their content. They are very unique in their own ways. Some are about cats, dogs, baby animals. Some are inspirational. Some of educational and helpful for indie writers. And some are simply entertaining, because they allow you a glimpse into another persons life.

There are SO many others. Angells Book Reviews and Courtney Wendeltons. And this doesn’t even cover many of the Blogger blogs I follow.

I am also honored that many of these bloggers follow my blog as well. Before my hiatus, I had called for people who would like to be interviewed and have their books or blog highlighted here, and a few stepped forward. There are still a few I am trying to get in touch with. Those interviews will be coming soon. I have so many questions I want to ask, I have to scale down my questionnaire a bit…lol.

Do you have a favored author or blogger that you follow? Want to share them here in the comments? I will gladly give them a look and see if they would like to be spotlighted here. Do you wish to be spotlighted? As I have said before, it’s for books, authors, bloggers…cat lovers, coffee enthusiasts…lol.

I would love to get as many as possible, covering all walks of life. I want to build brigdes and watch my favorite people mix and meet, but I dont want to do the traditions mix and meets that most other blogs do. I always have to do things the hardway, and, well, the oddball way. ..lol.
So dont be shy and step right up!

Online Shopping

Amazon-Logo

It can become a real addiction. I straddle that line. I absolutely love shopping online, however, I do know where to shop safely. I usually stick to Amazon, Wal-Mart and Book stores. I tend to avoid EBay. I have heard too many horror stories there.

I have grand lovely, very meticulously sorted Lists on Amazon. I know I will end up deleted items along the way as my ‘need’ for them wanes. That’s why I place things in the lists rather than buying them outright.

I do love using Amazons Prime Pantry for non-perishable foods. It’s quick, easy, and I can find most things cheaper than my local stores. And the selections can be better at times, too.

Sometimes I get impulsive on shopping for clothes. It depends on the season and what is on clearance. Full Beauty and Woman Within are my favorites, as I can buy big oversized t-shirts and sweaters, but pants and shorts that fit me well.

Another favorite thing about using my Amazon Prime, is that I can purchase an item as a surprise for someone else, for their birthday or holiday, and have it shipped straight to them, gift wrapped and all. My best friend loves books, so I like giving her gift cards for eBooks. It works for both of us, as she has excellent taste in reading material, and I have one of her old kindles, so I am logged into her account. Reading for both of us! I try not to read the same book she is to not mess up her book mark or anything though. It works out great between us.

Now, I will tell you, for a horror writer, I do not like to sleep without a night light. Funny, I know. However, it’s not for fear of the dark. It’s more to do with me getting up and tripping over cat toys, cats, or painfully ramming my thigh into the corner of my bedside table. I need to see. I recently purchased myself a nightlight that is a silicone cat. They are everywhere, marketed for children’s rooms. It is standard with a soft white light, but if you tap it a few times it changes colors. I thought it was nifty, and hey, it’s a CAT!

Bed sheets and comforters. I love them. I have way too many sets. I still buy them. >.>

I did make an impulsive buy that I will firmly hold my best friend accountable for. I bought a color changing Jellyfish aquarium. Yes, they are silicone Jellyfish, but I have seen these things for myself, and move very life like. I had to have it. I didn’t need it though. I will feel guilty once it arrives, struggle with whether I should return it or not, and then make peace with myself and love it.

As for office supplies. Let’s just say that when I die, I leave a legacy of office supplies that will carry my grandkids and great grandkids though school, college and work for a good while.

And speaking of office things…I have an addiction to external hard drives. I don’t know why. I have 3 of them now. Who really needs 3 external drives? I haven’t even put anything on one of them.

Shopping, shopping, and shopping. It’s fun, but so deadly…lol.

My cats have more toys than needed, however, they do play with everything they have. Each has their own particular playthings. Some like the sparkly balls, some like the noisy toys, and some like the little fake mice. They ALL love the cardboard scratchers. And what a mess those things make >.<  .

Candles…if you ever want to send me a gift, just ask for my favorite scents. Really, I actually use the little wax melts in my electric burners more. Swan Creek Candle Co. is one of those things I found at a gift shop in a gas station on a road trip. I bought two different scent packs. They were awesome and potent, longer lasting than the stuff they sale at Wal-Mart. So I found them on the internet and now order directly from them. I try every scent they have, making note of my favorites. Thus far, there are only three I don’t care for. And now that they have their fall/winter seasons out, I put in my order for those. I would say I order once every 4-6 months from them. I even got my best friend hooked on them.

Well, that’s a peek into my shopping addictions and loves. Oh, and faults.

Do you have a favorite quirky shopping flair? Anything you HAVE to have on a regular basis? Chime in…it may start me on a new obsession.

Be sweet, my darlings!

Long Over-due…and kittehs!!!

2017-01-02-08-11-11

Welcome the baby! This is the kitten I was telling you all about back in December. He was just a tiny bit of fluff, skin and bones. He was feral, we could only surmise that he got separated from his momma and the rest of the colony.

He showed up on my best friends doorstep…well…windows. She patiently coaxed him into the garage where she made him a bed and fed him plenty of food and water until I had a chance to drive out there (Alabama to New Mexico) to pick him up.

It was love at first hold. This little baby snared my heart, and I like to think he fell completely in love with me, too, as he had previously clawed my poor best friend in the face, twice.

So the long drive home, only one peepee accident and he was safe in his new environment. I named him Spencer Lee. He has an uncanny resemblance to Fat Cat. Both being RagDolls. His temperament is super sweet to his new momma cat. (me)

Here’s a quick shot of Jeff playing handsies with Spencer. Jeff was the first to take to him without a lot of fuss.
2016-12-31-18-56-21

Along the way I’ve also fostered in two additional cats. These two have been raised together and are my daughters boyfriends cats. Sid and Siefer. Yes, Final Fantasy nerds unite.
2017-02-01-12-36-01

So now my house is filled with the loving sounds of 6 cats. I love it. Though, when the daughter and her boyfriend move out on their own, I will lose his two cats, and my Quinney, because she has integrated herself into Sid and Siefers little pack, and I’ve hate to separate them.

Its okay, I’ll go to the shelter and adopt MOAR cats. ~grins~

So, there is the update on the kittehs.

Now on to my back troubles.

I went in and had six injections to the lower left side of my spine and combined that with pool therapy. I was pain-free for a good 2.5 – 3 weeks. Then the pain returned and is holding at a 9/10 on the pain scale. HOWEVER…I also fired my back surgeon. Why, you may ask? For sheer rudeness.
I am a patient woman, come on, look at me, I have six cats. But…please dont ask me to show up at 8am, then not call me back to the exam room until 9:30am, and by 10:30am I STILL have not seen the doc. That’s unprofessional. And this was an appointment only day, no other surgeries or emergencies to come up. I heard him with a patient in the next room, got my hopes in line after the nurse said I was next, then didn’t hear another word.

I walked to the nurses station, smiled, expressed my irritation and kindly asked the nurse to please tell the doctor he was fired. I also stopped the pool therapy.

So, I think from this time on, I will just bear with the pain as I have done with for the last twenty years, letting my regular family practice doc handle my pain management the best she can.

Onto my work with the Dothan Library. I had volunteered to give some Creative Writing classes. With the library heads we came up with a course that covers a different topic a month, over the next 6 months.

The first was held just last Saturday, aptly named Creative Writing 101: Plot, Structure and Outlining. It was great. I WAS SO NERVOUS. I expected about 10 people. 9 were in attendance. I gave my apologies for being a bit flustered in the beginning, not being a public speaker and all. This group really made me feel comfortable.

So next month will be great. I plan on covering characters, development, scenes and possibly dialogue, if we have time, or that will be carried over to the next class.

I will say, by the time the 3 hour class was over, I needed a drink to unwind. My friend Stephanie met me at a local Mexican restaurant where I proceeded to indulge in a half-pitcher of margaritas on the rocks and nachos…lol.

So that brings us to now. And for your enjoyment, I am going to throw in some extra picture of Spencer.

You can all thank Patricia on Twitter for giving me the virtual kick in the pants last night on updating, FINALLY. Now I have no more excuses for delays other than getting mauled by kittehs.

Best sweet, my darlings!

Always unexpected…

sickcatInsert

It never fails…I seem to drop off the face of the planet. BUT I’M STILL HERE!!

I unexpectedly came down with a case of pneumonia. Some of you know how serious that is for me. I have COPD, and the two just clash and try to kill me. I even had to have a nice little emergency trip to the ER one night. As a result, I’m back to trusting my oxygen unit at home again. I keep it hooked up to my CPAP for ease. When I feel too weak, I lie down with it and focus on deep breaths.

I think this was all brought on by spreading myself a little thin the month of November, exhausting myself, and then the way the crazy Southern weather fluctuates. Or, one of the kids picked up a germ or two and brought it into the house. My immunity levels are nearly non-existent, so of course I’d catch a bug and it turn near fatal.

So, there is the explanation of my rather sudden disappearance.

I have something really wonderful to share however, that will take me offline again next week after the 25th. But with that brief absence, I will be back with my new baby!
Here is the story…

ChesterAnn (aka Fat Cat) died last year, as some of you know, and it devastated me. Since then, I have gotten three other cats. I love each and every single one of them. My baby though, is BaxterMarie. She’s up my butt in and my business all the time.

Some of you are also well aware that my best friend lives all the way out in New Mexico. Well…a small kitten, too young to even be weaned yet, showed up around her house crying. It was very feral. However, being the animal lover my best friend is, she set up a crate shelter in the inside of her garage next to the door and kept the garage door cracked for the kitten to find its way there and keep warm, and to finally have some food.

Upon finally seeing this little kitten, she snapped a quick picture of it and sent it to me. I swear, it is ChesterAnn reborn.

So, come the 26th, I will be on the road from Alabama to New Mexico to 1. See one of the most influential people in my life and 2. to pick up my new (old?) kitteh. My best friend swears it is ChesterAnn reincarnated, and was sent to her to bring us all together, and I am in with that belief. The resemblance is uncanny, the attitude as well. The kitten isn’t as feral as first thought, though is rather shy of people.

I’m super excited. I’m sure all my other cats will hate me for a bit for bringing another baby into the house, but they need a sibling.

BaxterMarie will have the biggest adjustment as I bottle feed the kitten and wean it properly.

So excited.

Happy Holidays to all of you…my friends and followers. All the best to you and your families.

Be sweet, my lovelies.

November 2016 Day 28

nano-and-nablo-banner

It’s been a busy morning, and I have worked on my NaNo writing, but I’m not finished yet. However, my brains needed a break from the novel. So I took myself to Hobby Lobby and picked up a few things. Mainly some upholstery fabric for my office chair (I hate the leather feel, so I got a lovely quilted fabric) and some things needed for the project.

I have other things going on inside of this brain of mine. More story ideas. Mostly short stories. I’m jot the ideas down and that will give me something to toy with when the mood strikes.

So on to today’s BlogHer prompt:
Nov. 28: What was your most precious possession when you were a kid?

When I was little, I had this large stuffed animal. It was a lamb. I used it as a pillow, and kept it very safe in my room. Of course, her name was Lamb chop. I know, how original. Come on, I was like, four years old. However, I kept that same silly lamb all the way into my early teens until after many fix- ups and stitches the poor lamb needed that it just disintegrated. I have never seen another lamb quite like it. Not for the massive size it was. I don’t even know where my mom had gotten, because when you are four and presented with a lamb that’s as big as you are, you just don’t question it. You love and cuddle it.

Now, as an adult, I have…oddities. So many. I can’t pick a favorite. I rotate them out, sometimes buying more when something truly captivating catches my weird eye. Living Dead Dolls, homemade voodoo dolls from New Orleans, voodoo dolls I’ve made myself. Then there are my Walking Dead figures and my Pacific Rim Jaeger’s – Gypsy Danger being my favorite, of course. My skeletal animals. Candles galore. We won’t start on my coffee mug collection.

There is one constant in all my oddities that never leaves the edge of my desk however. That would be Edgar Allen Poe. He’s a rather tall figure, and off course, he’s a bobble head. At his feet is his ever-present raven. I give him a poke now and then and he kindly gives me a nod of approval.

The eccentricities go on and on…I have nearly a whole room full of boxes of stuff.

So there we have it!

November 2016 Day 22

nano-and-nablo-banner

No NaNo count yet…my creative juices just DO NOT want to flow today. Plus, being in pain is kind of distracting. So, I’ll work on my NaNoWriMo later.

On to todays BlogHer prompt:

Nov. 22: What TV show are you obsessed with? Share 10 reasons it’s better than the other shows.

Just one? JUST ONE? Nope, not fair. I hate being asked to list just ONE favorite of anything, because I just don’t think that way. So, you’ll get a list of my favorites, and not quite 10 reasons why.

Here we go:

  1. The Walking Dead :
  • HELLO… end of the world as we know it drama. Dead things to poke with a stick! Danger, drama, in-fighting!
  •  Daryl Dixon anyone? Negan? Come on…hawtness.
  • Watching zombies age. Seriously, if you have watched since season one; they have become        skinnier and more brittle.
  • Carl. Watching him grow from little snot nosed brat to big snot nosed brat who can kick your     ass. Nice one.
  •    Plain old people are more of a threat than the dead things.
  •   Mysterious lawn mowing. Serious, who is going around cutting everyones lawn?
  •  Gasoline. People…gasoline has a shelf life. At this point, with how they have aged Judith, that shelf life has expired.
  • Rick Grime and Michonne anyone?
  • Michonne and her sword anyone?
  •  Michonnes sword anyone?
  1. Vikings :
  • They’re Vikings!
  • Hot Vikings
  • Tyranny
  • Plundering
  • Lovely duels of wit – from Vikings
  • Pillaging
  • Shield Maidens! Kick ass!

  1. Supernatural :
  • Do I even need to list all the awesomeness that is this show?
  1. Daredevil :
  • Again, too many reasons. Most importantly though: The Punisher.

That about wraps up what I watch on a regular basis. I like American Horror Story, but will admit to being in and out with it. I don’t watch weekly, I just sort of binge when I feel like it. I don’t know how I feel about this season yet. Didn’t care for last or Circus. Coven was okay. The first season was undoubtedly the best.

So there you have it.

Be Sweet, my lovelies…
