November 2016 Day 12

nano-and-nablo-banner

Well, my word count for NaNoWriMo is climbing daily, even though I only managed 1669 words this morning. I am in pain so bad from my back. This spinal surgery, though I dread it, is not coming along fast enough.

So onto other things. BlogHer doesnt give prompts for blogs on Weekends, so I thought I give you all a sneak peak of Book Two.

I present you a excerpt from Book Two ‘The Path of Redemption’ – mind you this is a raw cut. Enjoy!

Jabril traced her soft lips as she had fallen asleep, feeling the warmth within his heart. It was amazing how this dark, devious little beautiful creature had captivated him. She had snared him, and his heart, in such a short amount of time. Both had been conflicted on what they had wanted, what they had needed, and yet, despite what either had said, here they were. They had gone through so much together in a short amount of time. They had shared so much. It was amazing that it was just out of nowhere. He had believed that he would never allow anyone into his heart again, not after his lost love, his betrayer. And Addison had longed for love, someone to let into her heart, someone to depend on and help keep her from tumbling over that edge of insanity. There was something about Addison, this little beast that she was. Jabril smiled as he watched her sleeping form. She did, in fact, just try to bring the genocide of an entire city. So much destruction, even though she had been trying to correct some of it.

But now Jabril knew the why and what in her motivations. He could help her. He could set her lose to gain vengeance.

There was a demon out there that he had a slow, painful, tormenting death in mind. On further thought, he considered binding it as a slave summon. Sending it back to hell, only to make it ‘summon bound’ to the summoners will.

No. He couldn’t take this away from Addison. It was up to her how this demon was to meet its end, despite Jabril’s wish to handle it – to save her.

She needed saving from herself, not the demon.

There you go! Just a nibble!

Be sweet, my lovelies!

Joys and Woes of NaNoWriMo

nanowrimo_2016_webbanner_participant

This years NaNoWriMo is really getting into the prep time. A lot of hype and well wishing, a lot of encouragement.
This year marks my second year as a Municipal Liaison. I LOVE IT! We all know I suffer from social anxiety. Well, working with the public on NaNo steps things in another direction. Since we hold most events between two libraries, they are controlled enviorments. No loudness, no craziness (besides my own) and its just plain fun to sit around with other authors, both young and old, answering questions, giving advice, listening to plots being thought out and bounced around for the input of others…it is just great.

Now, the down side. I have so wanted to get to the NOWD for two years now.
1465948524

I’m NOT going to make it again this year. I have resigned myself to that. No one is donating, and, as time grows closer, the airfare and hotel accomodations just get higher and higher.
So, I’ll keep my fundraising page up, just to see if I can help the NaNo cause more, but dreams of actually making it are kapoot.
Next year, hopefully things will be different.

As for this year, working with the librariy directors, I think we’ll have a better turn out of writers. We are advertising early, getting the word out, making so everyone with questions gets them answered well before signing up and commiting to the event

I have put together two prize bags for the two highest word counts. General book on writing, plotting, planning, editing and so one. And hot chocolate. Yums.

So, local NaNo is a go!!

Writers: Getting a little more exposure.

Rpih9
In my last post, I made mention of a few website that I post my various stories, other than just here on the blog.

Its great to help build a following and fan base to broaden your readers, and, in some cases, gain the attention of agents and publishers.

To help you in this, I’m going to provide you a listing, links and my personal takes on each site.

Jukepop: http://www.jukepop.com/

screenshot-www-jukepop-com-2016-09-21-05-51-41

Jukepop is called a site for ‘Serials’. You post chapters, and they can be voted upon. You can make a little money, and you can even get some investors that you share your eventual profits with.

Personally, I just post there for the exposure. The posting process is a little difficult and time consuming, and then anything you post must be approved. ‘A Walk Amongst the Dead’ still has not been approved, and I can only assume because of the few profanities in the story.

Tablo: https://tablo.io/
tablo-io

Tablo doesnt seem too impressive of a site. I know my profile and works do not get many looks and reads or upvotes. It is user friendly, however, and good for a little extra exposure if you can get followers built.

Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/
wattpad-com

wattpad is extremely easy to use, but to gain a following you have to do a lot of reading and liking and following of your own to get anywhere. A lot of people have had great success with Wattpad! I am just now getting myself reaquainted with it.

Scriggler: https://scriggler.com/
scriggler-com

Scriggle…well…it takes some getting used to. Its easy to upload, simply copy and paste your chapters or story, but navigating groups, checking mail and comments are a little rough. I have my own group there for short story writers. Its great for building a following. And they have more than just stories. They have opinion sections, poetry, news. etc.. You can track your ranking and see how your doing in your story writing. Its cool…just a little difficult to check mail.

Bublish: https://www.bublish.com/
www-bublish-com

Bublish is amazing, however, there is a catch. To get the most out of the site, you will have to break down and pay for it. A monthly fee of $9.99 a month, or $99.00 annually.

The site is easy to navigate, easy to post your work, and allows for ‘rough cut bubbles’ which you share via Facebook and Twitter. You choose what you want to share from the writing, and it creates a bubble all ready to post for you to your social media account. I personally like the service. Its easy to gain more followers as well, because Bublish will also make a tweets from their Twitter accounts with your bubbles and account name.

upliterate: http://upliterate.com/
upliterate-com

I love this site. It doesnt get you a lot of exposure, but you will get a small group of followers which will hopefully follow your social media accounts and website to see more of you.

Its super user friendly as well.

Medium: https://medium.com/
medium-com

Medium is another super easy site to upload your works to and gain a bit more of a following. People can ‘like’ and comment. Its very stream-lined and, as I’ve said, easy to use.

I have this as one of my main places to post my short stories, as I can do it super quick and without a lot of fuss.

Write Globe: http://writeglobe.com/
writeglobe
This is a new site for me. I have yet to upload anything to test the waters. However, here is what I pulled from the ‘About’ page.

About Us

Write Globe is the perfect platform for every creative individuals in the world of writing, publishing and editing, who want to reach out to a larger section of the society.
Acting as the linkage between writers, poets, authors and publishers, Write Globe helps these creative individuals in showcasing their unique talent to the world. The books which are written by you will be promoted immensely on the platform of Write Globe and which will gain attention from several visitors of the website. Along with promoting the books, Write Globe also acts as an excellent base for those who want to submit their writings or articles or poetries.
Through Write Globe you can find convenient publishers and publishers too can advertise their brand’s service via this online portal. Recently book trailers have become quite popular for promoting upcoming novels and books and Write Globe has provisions for such unique book trailers on the website.
Promotional events like book launch, book signing or any other event can be extensively shared via Write Globe which will showcase your creativities to the world.

Niume: https://niume.com/
screenshot-niume-com-2016-09-02-06-43-36

This is one of my top favorites. It is very easy to gain a following on this site, and is so visually pleasing. You can host more than just stories as well. You can make blog entries in the ‘Lifestyles’ sphere. You can post your photos. You can show off your humor, and so much more.

I have gained a lot of recognition for the short stories I posted there recently, and a lot of excellent feedback.

Authors.me: https://www.authors.me/
www-authors-me

I am in love with this site. Totally. Its super easy to work with. A the extra fantastic bonus?

It links you up with Agents and Publishers in your selected genres.

You submit your work to the selection that matches what genre you have chosen for a particular book, set of short stories or poetry, and whammo…you get a response on how much time it will take for them to look at your work and get back to you.
I love this site.

~~~
Now, this list, with the exception of Write Globe, is in reverse order of how I use them. I know, I should have mentioned that at the start.
I know there are tons of other sites out there, for writing, blogging…everything under the sun. These are my personal favorites for writing…with a smidge of blogging.
So, I hope you all enjoy, look me up, and lets get some followers a followin’!
Update on Fundraiser
1465948524
So, thus far I have raised a whopping $21.00
I’ve been pushing the social media, and just dont know what I’m doing wrong, or not doing at all.
Well, other than mostly everyone I know is broke.
Just to clarify this non-profit fundraiser, I am working toward raising $300 for the nonprofit behind NaNoWriMo. As soon as I’ve raised at least $300.  If I raise $425 I can bring a friend. I know someone who would love to attend.
Mind you, fundraising money doesnt come to me, it goes directly to NaNoWriMo.
I’m also responsible for getting myself a roundtrip flight and hotel for the night.
So, if possible, toss a few bills my way.
I’ll reward you with stories, from horror to smut…>_>
Love my sweeties!
Night of Writing Dangerously
1465948524
So, another November is coming soon, and that means…NaNoWriMo!!! National Novel Writing Month! YAY!
This will make my second year as a Municipal Liaison. I had a blast last year, and the Dothan Library System has been phenominal in providing places between two of their branches for parties and Write Ins. Its going to be another awesome year!!
And, as I tried last year (failed) I am striving to mee the fundraiser requirements fort a chance to attend the Night of Writing Dangerously in San Fracisco this year.
I have decided to place the fundraiser page under my REAL name, rather than my pen name. Zoe Ambler is…well…actually just a humble girl from Alabama called Beth.
A friend actually calls me Zoe-Beth, and it has a GREAT ring to it in my opinion. I have seriously given thought to actually changing my name. Though, I would face the wrath of my mother. Given that she lives in Guatemala, I just might be able to avoid that.
Anywho, would you like to support my efforts in taking me, plus a good writer friend of mine as a plus one, to the event?
Follow the link: https://www.classy.org/fundraise?fcid=723914
Also, go right on ahead and add me as a friend on Facebook if you’d like. I mean, I post just about anything I talk about here. CATS. ALL CATS. PICTURES, VIDEOS! …oh, and Zombie Apocalypse stuff. You all can never escape me on that.
So, please help me out in my endeavor. I would love to be a part of such a fantastic night of writing!
Love you all!
~hugs and squishes~
Netflix Vortex of Doom…and a lil something extra
So, I am always getting sucked into the Netflix Vortex of Doom. I am one of those people who dont just watch an episode of something…or even a single season of something, unless thats all thats available….nnnooo…I am not satisfied until I’ve seen all the things.
I’ve never brought it up before, and its only for the Chrome browser users I think…I use Chrome pretty exclusively. Anyway, I found a LOVELY extension for the Chrome browser like, went the extention first became available.
What is does, is it unlocks OTHER countries Netflix regions. What is so exciting about that? Netflix is Netflix. Oh, no, my lovely dearies. Netflix in other countries carries different movies, newer movies and series, and things removed from the good old Netflix you are used to watching.
The extension is called Hola!.
Hola-Logo
It’s a wonderful thing. I’ve been watching Argentina’s Netflix all day.
The best countries are US, UK, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Argentina, Switzerland, Brazil and Sweden. Now, there are some drawbacks. On some movies, you have to read subtitles, however, look out because they do have option at the bottom of the Netflix screen to switch those to whatever language you speak.
Another drawback is your favorites list doesnt always carry over. And sometimes movie drop. Usually when movies drop, and dont reconnect in a timely manner, I close out of that tab and start a new one, and it usually kicks in the movie from about a minute of where I had gotten dropped.
You have to scroll through the list of countries, as some countries piggyback off other, and dont have their own Netflix.
From what I understand, Hola can be used for other searching type things as well, and unlock Youtube video from regions that tell you that you cant watch that video. I really havent toyed with it much, I just use it for Netflix. It feeds my addiction.
Having gotten all that out there, tomorrow night I will present three more movies that I’ve watched. I try not to give a detail review, I really hate the thought of ruining a movie or show for someone, or accidentally giving too much away. So, I prefer to just give my impression vaguely, whether I enjoyed it or not, and would or wouldnt recommend it.
So, until tomorrow night, sleep tight, if you do that sort of thing…
Howdy my Darlings!
This year I am working as a Municipal Liason on NaNoWriMo. I would love for you all to clicky the link above and give whatever you’d like or can!
As you all know, NaNo is a project dear to me, I love participating and I love rallying the others.
I plan on attending The “Night of Writing Dangerously” in San Fransico, however, this also depends on the help of you all. I must raise enough through fundraising to ensure my seat!!
The Deadline for this fundraiser is August 31. I know, I know…not a lot of time. But please, any little bit will help and ensure my spot.
There is a static page for this on http://zoeambler.com for those who wish to donate later, or multiple times!
Love you, my darlings!
Tattered: A short story (RP Based)
This is a little short story involving Genesis, a character from The Road of Darkness. I write for her on my Roleplay site, and this particular piece just gave a little insight into what she was dealing with at a particular time.
Enjoy!
Queen+Mary+II+Docks+Sydney+Harbour+NxF2ODZ14Uil
She didn’t come home to roost in Sydney often, but this seemed like the best place to heal for a bit. She sat at the docks, watching the boats and ships come and go. Why? She wasn’t sure. Only days ago, this was the place she was handed divorce papers, had her meager personal belongings left on the pier and said goodbye to Silvas. Now he was off to who knows where.
She had taken her things to Headquarters, of course. And now, she simply had been roaming. She wasn’t that familiar with Sydney at all. She really enjoyed it, however. She liked the climate. The people were friendly.
She felt like she had no purpose at the moment, as she sat there in thought. The tattered edges of what made her a confident young woman pained her. Nothing like being left behind to make one feel threadbare. Her nerves were threadbare, her patience, her compassion, her drive. All threadbare. She wanted purpose again. She wanted to use those skills she was blessed with again.
Genesis pulled her SAT phone out, scrolling through the numbers. She didn’t know many of her crew-mates, but those she did, she felt she could talk to in confidence with. None seemed to be in Sydney at the moment, and she contemplated calling one of them, reaching out. But… if they weren’t in Sydney, they were probably tending to important matters. Genesis didn’t want to interrupt or intrude upon anyone.
She stared at Dexter’s number for a good bit though.
And then Addison’s.
She really didn’t want to turn to Addison. She was weird. Genesis didn’t feel like she could be trusted. She didn’t even like the woman being in Azhi. But such things weren’t her call. She had to trust in leadership in their decision on that one. Addison had a secret and Genesis knew it. She hadn’t shared it with anyone. She hoped Addison would do something stupid and reveal her little secret to everyone on her own.
The gulls pulled Genesis from her thoughts. The day was delightfully warm and sunny. It felt good against her skin. She had dressed appropriately for the day. Cargo shorts, tennis shoes, a tank top covered by a man’s business vest. It was a little big, but it hid her weapons. Her hair was pulled up in a ponytail.
She got up from the little wooden bench overlooking the bay and went back to her exploring of this city. She talked to people here and there. She loved the Aussie accent. And they seemed to not mind her being an American. She had no discernable accent to pinpoint the area of the States she was from. She was just… her. Genesis.
She stopped at a few shops, just to browse more or less. A few grocery items were picked up.
Upon leaving one shop, the felt the temperature outside had dropped a little. The sun was beginning its descent. A good time to hunt.
Her unfamiliarity with this city was against her. But hunting in a strange place also had something to its flavor that was thrilling and intriguing. She would have to use her senses to the fullest.
Genesis allowed a small, yet sullen, smile to cross her lips. She turned and headed off in the direction of the not so touristy areas of the city, slinging her small bag over her shoulder. The weapons under her vest pressed against her sides lovingly. Look out, bad guys, little Genesis was in the hunt to spread some justice.
Let them burn: A short story (RP Based)
Here’s a little peak at Addison, something not included in the book, The Road of Darkness. Just a little bit of the things she does with her idle time.
hqdefault
Usually she practiced her prayers and invocations upstairs in her attic. But tonight was different. Tonight was for special things. Special people. She needed a good old fashioned dirt floor, the wine cellar, under her bare feet and a small wooden work table, the wax of hundreds of previous candles hardened from top to bottom to look as if a multicolored frozen waterfall.
For tonight’s workings, Addison chose green, black and white candles. And a single gold in the center. They were already dripping as she started her workings. On the work table she had several fetishes set in a line. She couldn’t use her usual voodoo dolls, because she couldn’t collect everything she had needed. But the fetishes worked just as well.
She knelt upon the ground in front of the table and took pen in hand and started writing names, over and over and over, names, names, and more names, all on their own slips of paper. She would write someone’s name on a single slip of paper as many times as she could fit it on there. She then picked up the gold wax and placed a single drop on each and every slip of paper.
She said a small incantation and blessing to her gods and goddesses before reaching for fetish after fetish, stuffing a named slip of paper into its folds of fabric, tying it off with random old keys and bailing twine. There were over fifty of the little fetish dolls scattered over the work table by the time she was done.
Addison looked over her handiwork, giving a nod while blowing a long strand of hair from her face. She reached across the table and grabbed a jar of an unknown powder. She wiggled her toes in the cool dirt of the wine cellar and smiled, before moving a foot to smooth out the dirt once again. She got down on her knees, using her hand to smooth the dirt further, before reaching to pull her hair back, to keep it from obscuring her work.
She dipped her hand into the tan colored powder in the jar next to her, cupping her fingers slightly to pull out a small amount. From there, she began a design on the floor. At first, it didn’t seem like much, but after hours of laboring at it, it was indeed quite elaborate. A sigil for a particular god and goddess. A sigil whose lines crossed and intersected, because, as in this City, most everyone’s lives crossed and intersected at some point. But not hers, not anymore.
This was her revenge. This was her spot of fun. To many, she was a harmless little fool. To some, she was no one at all. What a mistake.
Voodoo can push and pull odds. Payment to the proper gods and goddesses can earn you favor, or, shift odds where you seek.
And there were many now, who Addison though needed a little push off the ladder, so to speak.
When bad things happened to bad people, she could say…’I had a hand in that.’ And when bad things happened to good people? She could say she had a hand in that as well. No one was making an effort anymore, why not fuck with their luck.
Oh, some would say they didn’t believe in what she did…her little voodoos and hoodoos. She didn’t care. What mattered is that their name was within a fetish, now connected to a grand sigil and she was offering gods and goddesses tokens of cigarettes, wine, bourbon, peppers and other little things.
No one would really know it was her. They’d just think ‘well fuck, how about that? Damn my luck…’.
This was almost more fun than throwing Holy Water, for the mere fact that the victims don’t see it coming. And she had so many in her intricate sigil, crissing and crossing.
She gave a bow of her head, striking a match on an old matchbook. She watched her little world burn for a moment before setting the sigil on fire, watching as the small flames moved, as if they had a thought of their own, taking their own direction, stalking its victims in order.
The small traveling flame finally died out after it ate away the powder. When the incense created by the powder hung in the air, Addison picked up a seagulls wing, using it to swoosh the plumes of smoke over the fetishes.
She knelt down on the floor once again. Daybreak would arrive soon. This had been a good night of ritual. Addison drank a shot of bourbon and said a prayer in thanks.
She left the cellar, off to bed for her. Addison petted and baby talked to her herd of cats while she made her way up the staircase, off to a void where she could watch the world burn.
Three Word Challenge
Unmotivated_by_pervertatoid
This was from a Three Word Challenge thread in one of the games I play.
The three words are:
1. girl
2. word
3. fly
The girl lay on the floor. Dead. Not just dead, a bloody mess.
He looked at her body. He had made such a mess, despite his tireless planning. He started the evening with a simple word. A greeting. “Hello”. Before long, and after many drinks, the young girl seemed to loosen and relax. She dropped her guards. He didn’t even need to use the drug he had stashed in his pocket.
But now. Everything was such a mess. He just wanted to see inside. What made her work. He had studied so many books. He had the sharpest of blades.
It would seem that the thrill of the first made him overly excited. Adrenaline rushed through his system. He shook with nervousness. Each slice he made was jagged, haphazard. And her screaming. Oh, god, he didn’t think she would ever stop screaming. He didn’t want to silence her, however.
He honestly didn’t think she would remain alive so long as he sliced and explored.
When blessed silence met his ears, he finally moved to observe his work. What. A. Mess.
Next time, he would do better.
He lifted a cigarette to his lips, lighting it and enjoying the taste and aroma. It was very much akin to basking in the afterglow. He sat for hours, just looking over what he had done. It was something that he had wanted to do since he was very young.
The hours were against him, though. The first fly fluttered over her body, near her bloodied nose. The first fly would only lead to the next. Soon there would be a horde.
Alexander stood, stripping out of his heavy rubber gloves and the blood soaked workmen jumpsuit. He placed it all into a drum barrel and set it alight before leaving the warehouse. The fire was small, containable. It would burn itself out without drawing any attention, while still destroying what needed erased.
He had to perfect his skill.
His mind was already working and cataloging the success and failures of this first for future reference.
