Movie Review: Wolf Creek 1,2 & Series

wolf creek 2
Wolf Creek 1 & 2

wolf creek series
Wolf Creek the Series (one season)

I took a day to myself to re-watch some of my favorite movies from Down Under. Australia puts out some really great horror movies, and movies based on actual events.

This review covers the Wolf Creek movies and the single season series. Each starts with the mention that it is based on actual events. And its is pretty accurate. Australia has a large amount of serial killers that have never been caught.

Young people flock to the Outback to take in the brilliant scenery and hitchhike around the country. Hence, so many go missing. Predators hone in one this, making these young ones easy targets. Included in the opening credits of the movies is the line ‘30,000 people go missing in Australia every year, 90% are found, 10% are never found.’ So, foul play runs rampant.

There are proven ‘backpack serial killers’ that have been caught, but how many copy cats go unchecked? And some of those that have been caught are so brutal to their victims. Australia is a vast land, as harsh as it is beautiful.

So, on with the reviews.

Wolf Creek movies 1 and 2, and the short series are some of my favorites. It is the villain I seem to root for, because, in my little head, he is just the best. Mick Taylor is a relentlessly brutal serial killer. He targets tourists. He views them as pigs that just need to be eliminated from ‘his’ country.

Mick has the absolute best maniacal snicker/chuckle I have ever heard. Actor John Jarret captures this character so well, I could never picture the character of Mick Taylor played by anyone else.

The good news is, Wolf Creek 3 is in post production.

Wolf Creek introduces us to Mick. It shows his relentless pursuit of those he deems as trash and a mar on his country. Foreigners are not welcome in his country. So, as a ‘pest eliminator’, he does his job. He takes great joy in this endeavor.

Wolf Creek 2 is much the same, showing just how gruesome this man can be. He is hilarious, however. Creepy, but hilarious. Some of his one liners had me in stitches, but, you have to remember, I am a fan of villains. Also, that snicker/chuckle. It makes me smile.

The short Season of Wolf Creek that was developed was also so perfect. This time, we got to see what drives Mick to do the things he does. We learn of his past, getting a glimpse into why he does what he does, and just how his mind got so warped.

The movies and the series are quite gruesome for the faint of heart. There really isn’t a fear factor as far a jump scares. It is more about sitting on the edge of your seat as the gore happens, because you can nearly feel the pain of Mick victims as he does what he does. He is quite creative and twisted. No one really gets a ‘clean death’.

So if you are up for a really charismatic villain and a lot of gruesome edge of your seat gore, I highly recommend checking these movies and the series out. You wont be disappointed.

Contests Gallore

upliterate-com

So, recently I have been entering all kinds of Halloween/Horror genre story contests.

One in particular I worked for DAYS and NIGHTS on. I am kind of iffy about it. I liked it the first dozen times I read it.

Well, the reckoning time has come. I submitted it.

If you would, please follow the link and give it a read, and a vote?

Who’s the Monster? by Zoe Ambler http://upliterate.com/permalink/story/466/

I’d really appreciate the support. There are some AWESOME stories already submitted by others, so I am not holding my breath too much. One can hope, though, cant she?

Thank you my lovelies.

And for those who dont want to go and check it out, I’ll post the story here on the blog around Halloween!

Writers: Getting a little more exposure.

Rpih9
In my last post, I made mention of a few website that I post my various stories, other than just here on the blog.

Its great to help build a following and fan base to broaden your readers, and, in some cases, gain the attention of agents and publishers.

To help you in this, I’m going to provide you a listing, links and my personal takes on each site.

Jukepop: http://www.jukepop.com/

screenshot-www-jukepop-com-2016-09-21-05-51-41

Jukepop is called a site for ‘Serials’. You post chapters, and they can be voted upon. You can make a little money, and you can even get some investors that you share your eventual profits with.

Personally, I just post there for the exposure. The posting process is a little difficult and time consuming, and then anything you post must be approved. ‘A Walk Amongst the Dead’ still has not been approved, and I can only assume because of the few profanities in the story.

Tablo: https://tablo.io/
tablo-io

Tablo doesnt seem too impressive of a site. I know my profile and works do not get many looks and reads or upvotes. It is user friendly, however, and good for a little extra exposure if you can get followers built.

Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/
wattpad-com

wattpad is extremely easy to use, but to gain a following you have to do a lot of reading and liking and following of your own to get anywhere. A lot of people have had great success with Wattpad! I am just now getting myself reaquainted with it.

Scriggler: https://scriggler.com/
scriggler-com

Scriggle…well…it takes some getting used to. Its easy to upload, simply copy and paste your chapters or story, but navigating groups, checking mail and comments are a little rough. I have my own group there for short story writers. Its great for building a following. And they have more than just stories. They have opinion sections, poetry, news. etc.. You can track your ranking and see how your doing in your story writing. Its cool…just a little difficult to check mail.

Bublish: https://www.bublish.com/
www-bublish-com

Bublish is amazing, however, there is a catch. To get the most out of the site, you will have to break down and pay for it. A monthly fee of $9.99 a month, or $99.00 annually.

The site is easy to navigate, easy to post your work, and allows for ‘rough cut bubbles’ which you share via Facebook and Twitter. You choose what you want to share from the writing, and it creates a bubble all ready to post for you to your social media account. I personally like the service. Its easy to gain more followers as well, because Bublish will also make a tweets from their Twitter accounts with your bubbles and account name.

upliterate: http://upliterate.com/
upliterate-com

I love this site. It doesnt get you a lot of exposure, but you will get a small group of followers which will hopefully follow your social media accounts and website to see more of you.

Its super user friendly as well.

Medium: https://medium.com/
medium-com

Medium is another super easy site to upload your works to and gain a bit more of a following. People can ‘like’ and comment. Its very stream-lined and, as I’ve said, easy to use.

I have this as one of my main places to post my short stories, as I can do it super quick and without a lot of fuss.

Write Globe: http://writeglobe.com/
writeglobe
This is a new site for me. I have yet to upload anything to test the waters. However, here is what I pulled from the ‘About’ page.

About Us

Write Globe is the perfect platform for every creative individuals in the world of writing, publishing and editing, who want to reach out to a larger section of the society.

The books which are written by you will be promoted immensely on the platform of Write Globe and which will gain attention from several visitors of the website. Niume: https://niume.com/
screenshot-niume-com-2016-09-02-06-43-36

This is one of my top favorites. It is very easy to gain a following on this site, and is so visually pleasing. You can host more than just stories as well. You can make blog entries in the ‘Lifestyles’ sphere. You can post your photos. You can show off your humor, and so much more.

I have gained a lot of recognition for the short stories I posted there recently, and a lot of excellent feedback.

Authors.me: https://www.authors.me/
www-authors-me

I am in love with this site. Totally. Its super easy to work with. A the extra fantastic bonus?

It links you up with Agents and Publishers in your selected genres.

You submit your work to the selection that matches what genre you have chosen for a particular book, set of short stories or poetry, and whammo…you get a response on how much time it will take for them to look at your work and get back to you.
I love this site.

~~~
Now, this list, with the exception of Write Globe, is in reverse order of how I use them. I know, I should have mentioned that at the start.
I know there are tons of other sites out there, for writing, blogging…everything under the sun. These are my personal favorites for writing…with a smidge of blogging.
So, I hope you all enjoy, look me up, and lets get some followers a followin’!
Busy Little Bee
bee-darts
So, I’ve been quite busy lately.
I have taken a collection of short stories that arent not in my normal horror genre and have been posting them to the following sites:
Niume
Wattpad
Medium
Jukepop
Tablo
Bublish
Upliterate
Scriggler
Authors.me
They are a collection of 8 short stories, most of them previously featured here on this blog. They are about human emotions, pain, loss, crime, etc… no spookiness, no vampires, no zombies and werewolves.
I am planning to compile my horror genre stories and do the same, as well as a little cache of Genesis and Addison stories that have not seen the light of day with the exception of A Walk Amongt the Dead.
If you are a member of any of the sites listed above, please look up my stories and like or upvote them! Leave comments! Feed back makes me feeel good.
Now, on the a little more distressing news. I’ve hurt my back again. I’m talking taking two Hydrocodone, two Robaxin and two Doans and the pain isnt dulled a bit. I’m also using a TENs unit.
So tomorrow, I am planning on calling the doc for x-rays to see how much damage I did, and I dont even know how I did it. Or, a new painmed prescription.
I also need a new ceiling fan in here in my office because this current one is dying and making a hella lot of noise, and I want to get a quote on how much it would take to get a door installed seperating my office from the living room and dining room area.
Whew. In pain, but gotta be busy.
So, until next time my sweets, take care!
RP pt 6 A walk amongst the Dead Finale
r-zombies-large570
Genesis:
As the platform gave way, sending Genesis tumbling downward with a mass of steel and debris, she curl up into a ball. She had to fight instinct as well. Fight or flight tendencies raced. For a Lycan, the fight came to the surface quicker than anything. To use sheer brute force. Genesis had to fight this. She couldn’t engage the zombies. Her mind, when in her Crinos form, was partially dominated by the wolf. The longing of biting and tearing would be too great, and using a weapon was nearly unheard of.
So she fell in a heap of dust to the warehouse floor. Surely the clamor had not gone unnoticed by the zombie puss-bags. She quickly did an inventory of herself. Nothing broken, but she could feel the scrapes and cuts and bruises. She looked around herself and nearly barked out in laughter. Beneath her was a good majority of the platform, and beneath that was a good chunk of the zombies that had wanted to make her their meal. They were smashed and broken, but their mouths and dead eyes still trained on her.
She rolled away to a clearer spot, finding another piece of steel like the last. She jabbed zombies in the head with each step she took. Trying to stay in the debris field as long as she could until Addison could get more of the fully functional zombies out of the way.
The platform collapse had done a fair bit of damage to the horde. That sparked Genesis’ mind into action and working out a plan. The platform was broken in half, splintered, but there was still a good chunk of it that just may be the answer the two crewmates needed. It would require her to shift, leaving her a little vulnerable, and Addison would have to cover her.
She looked at the distance between where she was and the small window high up on the opposing wall. In her Crinos form, it would be a short walk with long steps.
“Addison…I need you to cover me…I know how we’re getting out of here…” She called to her more than a little unhinged crewmate.
Genesis shifted. Her last thought was of the fact that she would be naked when this endeavor was done, with no money, and no clue to where they were even at. She continued on with the painful looking process of bones and tendons snapping, muscles reform, things elongating. Her human appearance ripped away in bloody chunks of flesh.
The great Crinos shook the visceral fluids left coating her fur away. Her eyes, with their golden sheen, turned to the platform piece. She lifted it, swinging it in the air a bit to dislodge some of the zombies that had gotten stuck in it, decapitating most of them. She watched where heads rolled, as a zombie with no head wasn’t dead. Teeth still snapped.
Genesis then started crossing the length of the warehouse, dragging the piece of platform with her. Addison was close, dancing with the zombies with sheer utter joy, it would appear. Genesis growled at her.
To her right, more zombies appeared. Just a few. The Crinos stage Lycan heft the piece of platform up and swung it at the zombies, effectively knocking them back or decapitating them. Her swing came a little close to Addison, and the little woman gave her a sour look. This sort of amused Genesis. Even in her shifted state, seeing the look of annoyance on the other woman’s face was something to give a chuckle to.
When she arrived under the window, she placed the platform against the wall at an angle. They would be able to scale the platform piece to the window. There would be a small jump, and they would have to be careful, from the platform edge to the window itself.
Genesis, in her Crinos shift, wouldn’t fit through the window, so she would have to change back to her human form. Not to mention, the platform probably wouldn’t hold her shifted weight.
Her golden tinted eyes turned to look behind herself. She roared at Addison to gain the woman’s attention before pausing to shift back to her human form. The process, in reverse, looked no less painful, but Genesis felt nothing as she clawed her way out of the massive fur husk of her Crinos form.
She scrambled up the platform and kicked out the window. “Addison…hurry up!” She growled out, waiting for the other woman.
Addison:
Addison was actually having the time of her life. Killing…or re-killing there dead things was a hoot in her book. She got to use her sword to its full effect. A beautiful dance with the dead things. And she could sing, too. Apparently the dead things didn’t like it much as they moaned and hissed at her. They didn’t seem to want to eat her though. They still focused on Genesis.
Her eyes scanned the area the platform had crumpled down into. She could see Genesis getting up, appearing to be fine, other than that perpetual pissed off look she carried with her everywhere.
She snapped out an order to Addison. An order? Since when did the pup give orders? Addison was the older of the two…by like 625 years. She scoffed, but listened. She went along with taking out the dead things, leaving Genesis to do whatever she was planning to do.
It took her by surprise a little to see Genesis shift into her big fur-ball state. She was massively huge, all teeth and claws and muscle. Her fur looked irresistible though. So soft. Addison always had a desire to pet the massive beast like it were a mere puppy.
It finally snapped into her head just what Genesis-beast was doing as she dragged the broken platform across the dirt, grime and dead things splattered floor. She was going to make them a ladder of sorts, to finally get out of this hell hole.
So Addison went to work on covering the Lycan the best she could. The horde was thinning, the collapse of the platform had helped a lot in that area. She went about with her dancing with the dead, sword hissing through the air, singing its own merry song.
Addison couldn’t keep the smile from her face.
The large Lycan had resorted to swinging the piece of platform she was dragging at some of the dead thing. Said swing came dangerously close to Addison’s head. She pursed her lips, brows knitted, giving Genesis a ‘look’. An ‘I’m not very happy with that’ look. The dead things were still coming, here and there, so Addison brushed it off and got back to work. She’d do something in return to wolf-girl when this was all over. A chicken nailed to the younger woman’s door seemed like an awesome thing to do.
Addison made her way to the makeshift ladder as Genesis called for her. On her way she passed something that caught her eye. She grinned. Genesis would not like it, but, it was necessary, seeing as the Lycan was now walking around in her birthday suit.
Addison grabbed up the item and gave it a good shake. It was an old set of grey workmen’s coveralls. Filthy. A little damp. Probably 3 sizes too big for the wolf-girl, but at least her ass would be covered.
She scrambled up the make-shift ladder, coming to slide down the wall outside the window to stand before the naked wolf girl. She beamed. “I found these for you…put them on for cryin’ out loud.” She said, thrusting the dirty coveralls at the younger woman.
She looked around, noting that was exactly what Genesis was doing. The sun was just coming up over the horizon. They were in a warehouse district somewhere. A trucking container and semi were parked up against the warehouse they had just escaped.
Addison looked to Genesis. “Well, we made it. Let’s find out where we are…and promptly get the fvck out of here.”
Genesis was slipping the coveralls on, simply giving Addison a nod. Once dressed, the two headed off to find out where they were and call someone from the crew to get them the hell out of there.
The mystery of who abducted them and pitted them into waves of zombies would have to come later…and vengeance would most certainly be a bitch.
I hope you all have enjoyed the story. I left a lot of holes and unanswered questions along the way to give us all fuel for the next part to come soon!
Cuddle Clones
As you all know, when Fat Cat died I was beside myself. My grief still tears me up inside today. I miss her so. She was so dear to me, and, while I have gotten myself an unexpected kitten, I can not replace Fat Cat in my heart.
Someone had sent me a link to Cuddle Clones when ChesterAnn (Fat Cat) had passed. I thought the whole idea behind the site was lovely. You can see what they do here, http://www.cuddleclones.com/index.html .
It is pricey, I know. But each item is hand made. Custom ordered to your specifications and pictures you provide.
Today I recieved a ‘quality check’ email asking me to look over the progress and see how I like it and give my approval.
Is that not AMAZING!! Again, its pricey. But to me, it was worth it. And, well, pro-tip…you can go to RetailMeNot and find discount codes. I had found one for 20% off.
I think for anyone who has lost a dear pet, this is a wonderful way to preserve a little piece of it.
The Cuddle Clones site also does more than just cats. They do dogs and horses as well. They can replicate a favorite stuffed animal from you or your childs past. They can take drawings you’ve made and make them plushies.
But their primary goal has always been to offer those of us who have lost a pet some little bit of comfort. Not only do they do the plushes, they have figurines and have recently added wood burning plaques.
I cant wait to finally recieve my Cuddle Clone of ChesterAnn. I will post pics of her when I get her in!
Aggrivation of day
1fedd21dc73dd0a19593ecce03492156
How I feel in my truck
So today was very aggrivating. If there is one thing that irks me, its making an appointment and either not being seen on that specific time, or being pushed back and pushed back for one reason or another.
I took my truck to have a lift kit put on it, because, you know, all redneck girl and stuff.
My appointment was at 11AM. In another town nearly 45 minutes away.
What time did I finally get home, you ask?
5:45PM.
Is that not a little ridiculous?
I watched, FOR HOURS, as my truck was put on hold so other little piddly repairs and services could be performed on other peoples vehicles. Now, all that says to me is “Oh, we dont care about customer service, we are greedy.”
They would rather rack in all this chump change and inconvience me all for a few extra bucks at the end of the day.
Do you think I’m going to give this place a nasty review?
You betcha.
I will say they did quality work. I am pleased with what they did. But they really dropped the ball in all other areas.
And as always, I was watchful. Once they started on my truck, from start to finish it only took maybe an hour at the most.
This makes me livid.
I was down there, bored out of my head for 6 hours on a job that only really took an hour. Did I mention that, thankfully this place had a clean bathroom, but they had NO vending machines or even a water fountain?
Blah.
Yanno, I get new tires put on on Wednesday. This is more local, right here in Enterprise. Mr. Sir had better not do the same thing or word will spread around this town like wild fire.
In other news, with the lift kit in place, and bigger all terrain tires being out on, there is a very high probability that I will eventually fall out of my truck and break my neck.
vroom vroom.
In the clutches of Netflix…
Yes, I am STILL within the clutches of the Netflix Vortex of Doom. I really dont mind, however, as it keeps my mind occupied a bit.
I have watched some really great, and some really bad stuff. And some funny. Though, I dont think the funny stuff was supposed to be funny…I think its that sense of dark humor in me, or maybe my inner serial killer. >_>
Tonight I will go over three movies I’ve watched. The good, the bad and the ugly, in their own respects.
So, on with the show, shall we?
b70803xwyac
Twixt
A writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.
Alrighty well, it was a bad movie, yet really good. Confusing, yes, I know.
The storyline was lame. Val Kilmer, while a wonderful actor, is looking very much his age in this lead role. I swear, if they put anymore spackle and make-up on him, I might try to hang some pictures.
Anyway. I wasnt expecting so much humor in this movie. Unintentional maybe? But, if you are a writer, you will find this movie a hoot, as it seems to target writers, their plights…and those stupid things some people say and ask them. It also pokes a little fun at the stereotypical ‘writers process’.
I had no idea Edgar Allan Poe was going to be tossed into the story as well. Loved that.
The cinematography was both cheezy and pretty. Low budget for sure. But, perhaps it was meant to have that look.
I found the movie to be pretty good, since I found so much humor in it. I recommend it.
152648
Banshee Chapter
Journalist Anne Roland explores the disturbing links behind her friend’s sudden disappearance, an ominous government research chemical, and a disturbing radio broadcast of unknown origin.
Alright, this movie sucked a little, but again, I found immense humor in it. The storyline was lame. The FX were lame. What got me though, was Ted Levines performance (come on, you know, the ‘its puts the lotion on its skin…’ guy from Silence of the Lambs, and other great performances). In this film, he is pretty much Hunter S Thompson without being called Hunter S Thompson. Even the artwork on the walls of his ranch resemble the artwork of Hunters great artist friends.
But again. The movie…bleh. I only watched it because I was so amused by the Hunter S Thompson salute. If you want some humor, and dont care if the story sucks a little, well, give this a watch.
Area_51_Film_Poster
Area 51
Three young conspiracy theorists attempt to uncover the mysteries of Area 51, the government’s secret location rumored to have hosted encounters with alien beings. What they find at this hidden facility exposes unimaginable secrets.
This movie sucked. No way to say it but that. I watched it because I love those ‘found footage’ sort of movies. I do, its a guilty pleasure, even when they suck. I was totally disappointed when I saw who directed and produced it, since I really liked the Paranormal Activity movies and the Purge. See, thats how they get you to watch this drivel of a film…you get sucked right in by those other movies, directors, producers, etc.. Dont waste you time on this movie…there is nothing redeeming in it at all.
—————–
So there you go, my darlings. Tomorrow night we will have both a film thingy and a bit of a rambling thing…the rambling thing may even turn into a discussion. Its a deep subject matter. Or weird…depending on how you look at it.
See you tomorrow, darlings.
Netflix Vortex of Doom…and a lil something extra
So, I am always getting sucked into the Netflix Vortex of Doom. I am one of those people who dont just watch an episode of something…or even a single season of something, unless thats all thats available….nnnooo…I am not satisfied until I’ve seen all the things.
I’ve never brought it up before, and its only for the Chrome browser users I think…I use Chrome pretty exclusively. Anyway, I found a LOVELY extension for the Chrome browser like, went the extention first became available.
What is does, is it unlocks OTHER countries Netflix regions. What is so exciting about that? Netflix is Netflix. Oh, no, my lovely dearies. Netflix in other countries carries different movies, newer movies and series, and things removed from the good old Netflix you are used to watching.
The extension is called Hola!.
Hola-Logo
It’s a wonderful thing. I’ve been watching Argentina’s Netflix all day.
The best countries are US, UK, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Argentina, Switzerland, Brazil and Sweden. Now, there are some drawbacks. On some movies, you have to read subtitles, however, look out because they do have option at the bottom of the Netflix screen to switch those to whatever language you speak.
Another drawback is your favorites list doesnt always carry over. And sometimes movie drop. Usually when movies drop, and dont reconnect in a timely manner, I close out of that tab and start a new one, and it usually kicks in the movie from about a minute of where I had gotten dropped.
You have to scroll through the list of countries, as some countries piggyback off other, and dont have their own Netflix.
From what I understand, Hola can be used for other searching type things as well, and unlock Youtube video from regions that tell you that you cant watch that video. I really havent toyed with it much, I just use it for Netflix. It feeds my addiction.
Having gotten all that out there, tomorrow night I will present three more movies that I’ve watched. I try not to give a detail review, I really hate the thought of ruining a movie or show for someone, or accidentally giving too much away. So, I prefer to just give my impression vaguely, whether I enjoyed it or not, and would or wouldnt recommend it.
So, until tomorrow night, sleep tight, if you do that sort of thing…
